The potential of economic development in the Kankakee River Valley is
outstanding. The region is fast becoming
the area of choice for many developers because of the
populations demographics, household characteristics, the average per
capita income of families in the valley and the favorable employment rates for business.
Another major reason for the economic development potential is the
tremendous growth being experienced in the area near
our own Kankakee
Valley Airport and the proposed third
airport. The third airport site is being proposed to accommodate the
overcrowding at the nearby Chicago airports. The second major reason is the availability
of skilled workers being supplied by both
Kankakee Community College and
Olivet
University.
Finally, it is the attitude
of the people of the valley. All over the river valley, residents feel that economic
development is the bottom line of their quest for a quality life style.
One of the
Kankakee
Regional Chamber of Commerce 's primary objectives is to work
with all local agencies to develop the economy of the valley. They are working hand in
hand with: the Kankakee Industrial Development
Association, the Kankakee County Economic Development
Association and local
municipalities in
promoting the entire River Valley Area. The Chamber feels that by helping to recruit and
retain industries and businesses, more jobs are created and in turn, the Kankakee River
Valley market potential market increases.
Add the above to the quality
of life in the valley and you have the potential for tremendous economic development
opportunities.
