Government Affairs Committee The purpose of the Government Affairs Committee is to be the voice of business on local, state and federal issues. All legislation should be viewed in the context of overall social policy with the goal being a development of a coherent governmental policy toward public education, support of the family, job training, economic development and incentive programs for business.The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) meets monthly at the Chamber office; typically on the third Monday of each month at 12pm. Task forces are composed of a group of volunteers using their resources and energies to accomplish a specific objective – they do not have standing meetings.Transportation Task Force Purpose: To be active in the water, surface, rail and air transportation issues relevant to our region on local, state and federal levels. Objectives: Support the development of a plan to channel funds to the state for road and bridge work, which is a matching funds grant. Support the development of a regional transportation “master plan” which includes more funding for Metro bus service, I-57 interchange at 6000N Road, development of Metra Rail expansion and development of Greater Kankakee Airport and third airport project in Will County. Political Campaign Development Institute (PCDI) Purpose: To educate and train business and community leaders about the political campaigning process. Objectives: Give prospective candidates a first-hand look at the political process and the technical details of operating a campaign. Legislative Programs Task Force Purpose: To develop and maintain quality legislative programs to meet the needs and wants of Members. Objectives: Continue the legislative partnership with the Kankakee County Farm Bureau to host the annual Legislative Reception where Members can enjoy informal one-on-one networking time with local legislators and elected officials.
